The town holds a place of great prominence in American history, folklore, and culture, and is known as "America's Hometown. It is the oldest municipality in New England and one of the oldest in the United States. Plymouth served as the capital of Plymouth Colony from its founding in until the colony's merger with the Massachusetts Bay Colony in It is named after Plymouth , England where the Mayflower set sail for America. Throughout the 19th century, the town thrived as a center of rope making, fishing, and shipping, and was home to the Plymouth Cordage Company , formerly the world's largest rope making company.

Joseph Hospital. Jack graduated from Auburn with a degree in electrical engineering and joined TVA in as a junior electrical engineer. He was stationed at Oak Ridge and worked on the Manhattan Project splitting the atom before serving a year on the battleship USS California as a lieutenant, junior grade. After more than 30 years with TVA in various positions, he retired in as area construction manager for the Power Construction Division. He was a Mason for over 60 years and a member of Scottish Rite.
